The Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship is designed for teaching assistants looking to upskill and strengthen their impact in the classroom.

Apprentices create effective learning environments, support pupils with a diverse range of needs, and learn strategies and techniques to support child development. The course helps prepare staff for further career development and progression and provides a solid foundation for training to teach in the future.

Modules Included:

• Safeguarding & essentials: This module equips apprentices with a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within school settings. Learners explore how to recognise signs of harm, follow reporting procedures, and contribute to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for all pupils.

• Pastoral care & child development: Apprentices develop insight into child development, wellbeing, and emotional needs. This module focuses on supporting the holistic growth of children and young people, helping apprentices respond effectively to pastoral, social, and emotional challenges within schools.

• Inclusion: This module introduces apprentices to the principles of inclusion within a school or education setting. Learners explore how inclusive practices support all learners in the classroom and beyond, and develop an understanding of removing barriers to participation to promote equality, diversity, and equal opportunities.

• PedTech in action: Apprentices gain confidence using digital tools and educational technology to support learning. This module explores how EdTech can enhance classroom activities, support personalised learning, and increase pupil engagement.

• Making the curriculum work: This module introduces apprentices to the structure and purpose of the school curriculum. Learners explore how to support lesson delivery, adapt learning activities, and help make the curriculum accessible to pupils with a range of needs.

• Classroom assessment: Apprentices develop an understanding of how assessment is used to monitor and support pupil progress. The module focuses on assisting with classroom assessment activities, providing effective feedback, and supporting teachers in tracking learning outcomes.

• SEND support: This module focuses on inclusive classroom support strategies for pupils with special educational needs and additional needs. Apprentices learn how to adapt resources, differentiate support, and work collaboratively to remove barriers to learning.

• Leading targeted interventions: Apprentices build skills in planning and delivering small group and one to one interventions. The module emphasises addressing learning gaps and evaluating the impact of targeted support on pupil progress and confidence.

• Reflective practitioner & TA toolkit: This module encourages apprentices to reflect on their own practice to continually improve their skills. Learners use feedback and self evaluation to drive professional development and enhance their effectiveness in the classroom. Apprentices also consolidate their learning into a practical toolkit for the classroom. Learners prepare for final assessment and build confidence in applying their skills, knowledge, and strategies in real school settings.

End Point Assessment:

• Practical Observation: An assessor evaluates the apprentice directly within their workplace to observe live classroom learning support.

• Professional Discussion: A structured, formal discussion with an independent assessor, guided by the learner’s portfolio and real-world teaching examples.
