Perfect for those passionate about Early Years education, this course equips early years staff with the skills to observe, communicate and shape effective learning experiences for children under 5.

Apprentices create effective learning environments, support pupils with a diverse range of needs, and learn strategies and techniques to support child development. The course helps prepare staff for further career development and progression in early years.

Module Included:

• Professional growth and reflection: This module supports apprentices to develop confidence, professionalism, and resilience within early years practice. Learners build reflective skills to evaluate their work, set personal development goals, and take ownership of their ongoing professional growth.

• Safeguarding essentials: Apprentices develop a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities in early years settings. This module focuses on recognising signs of harm, following safeguarding procedures, and understanding the legislation and policies that keep children safe.

• Child development: This module explores the stages of child development from birth to age five. Apprentices gain insight into how children grow, learn, and develop, enabling them to provide appropriate support that promotes progress across all areas of development.

• Theories of play and holistic development: Apprentices explore key theories of play and their role in children’s learning and development. This module supports learners to promote children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development through high quality, play based practice.

• Transitions, attachments and emotional care: This module focuses on supporting children through transitions and building secure, positive attachments. Apprentices learn how sensitive, responsive care promotes emotional wellbeing and helps children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.

• Building positive relationships: Apprentices develop strategies for building strong, respectful relationships with children, families, and colleagues. The module emphasises effective communication and collaboration to create a nurturing and inclusive early years environment.

• Health & safety: This module focuses on maintaining safe, hygienic early years environments. Apprentices learn how to follow policies, respond to accidents, and act appropriately in emergencies.

• Supporting SEN and inclusion: Apprentices learn how to adapt practice to meet the needs of children with special educational needs or additional needs. The module promotes inclusive practice that values diversity and ensures all children have equal opportunities to thrive.

• Observation and assessment: This module develops apprentices’ skills in observing, tracking, and recording children’s development. Learners explore assessment tools and techniques to monitor progress against milestones and plan effective next steps.

• Positive behaviour and wellbeing: Apprentices explore strategies for promoting positive behaviour and supporting children’s emotional wellbeing. The module focuses on managing challenging situations calmly and consistently, using caring and childcentred approaches.

End Point Assessment:

• Practical Observation: An independent assessor observe their workplace to observe practices within the early years.

• Professional Discussion: A formal discussion guided by the candidate’s portfolio of evidence to demonstrate framework compliance.
