The Leigh Institute (ConnectED Apprenticeships)
The Teaching Assistant apprenticeship route will allow you to work in schools and academies supporting the work of teaching and non-teaching staff to deliver the very best education possible for all students.
Teaching Assistants work in organisations associated within the Education Sector that are predominantly involved in supporting young people with a range of Special Educational Needs.
DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF APPRENTICESHIP
Typically 18 months - timescales may vary depending on occupational role and/or prior relevant qualifications / experience and Assessment of Prior Learning and Knowledge (APL/K) opportunities. This will consist of 20% off-site learning, which will take place during term time at sites across the Leigh Academies Trust.

ROLE PROFILE
Provide appropriate levels of individual attention, reassurance and help for student(s) needs as identified in Individual Education Plans or Educational Health Care Plans.
Support the specific needs of specified students - physical, emotional and/or behavioural
Support student(s) access to the curriculum, their learning in particular lessons and their progress towards specific individual targets
Ensure that teachers are aware of the specific learning needs of identified students
Support students in working independently in the company of others
To deliver as directed by the SENCO, one-to-one student programmes for Literacy and Numeracy, SPAG, handwriting, speech and language
Provide information advice and direction to students about their behaviour within the agreed framework of academy policies on discipline and behaviour
Assist student(s) access to the curriculum by differentiating instructions and resources
Support the maintenance of student records by providing information to the teacher/ SENCO and recording, in accordance with school and Faculties policy, the work of student
Provide praise and encouragement to students to recognise and promote positive student behaviour in accordance with school rewards system and behaviour policies
Report uncharacteristic student behaviour patterns and Child Protection concerns about an individual student and incidents of inappropriate behaviour to the Designated Safeguard Lead within the academy/school.
Attend internal meetings, including meetings of the Faculty/Student Support Faculty.
Provide information to support student progress including information for student records, reports, Individual Education Plans and annual reviews
Provide an appropriate level of assistance to enable students to experience a sense of achievement, maintain self-esteem and self-confidence and encourage self-help skills
Use appropriate strategies for challenging and motivating students to learn
LOCATION
Off-site learning will take place at sites across Leigh Academies Trust.
DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF APPRENTICESHIP
Typically, 22 months (which includes the three months for the End Point Assessment).
This will include 6 hours per-week of blended learning. It will be a blend of online learning and off-site learning which will take place during term time at sites across the Leigh Academies Trust.
END POINT ASSESSMENT:
Your End Point Assessment is made up of you contributing to build your portfolio as you go throughout the course. The End-Point Assessment also consists of a 90-minute classroom observation and a 90-minute professional discussion where you will discuss the knowledge and behaviours of a Teaching Assistant. During the course you will be guided, supported and fully prepped ahead of your End Point Assessment.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have lived in the UK for the past 3 years
Candidates must have achieved a grade 4/C at English and Maths GCSE or the Level 2 Functional Skills Equivalent. (Candidates who are just off these grades may have the option to study functional skills with us so we encourage applicants to apply and we can discuss this to see what can be done)
Ideally candidates would be willing to commute either by public transport or car as we cannot guarantee that the vacancies will be within walking distance. We do not expect apprentices to have a commute longer than 45/60 minutes if it can be helped.

Training type e.g block, release days, or at work address. Average 20% across the year with a combinations of work-place assessment and day release.
