Priory Apprenticeships


The Level 6 Career Development Professional apprenticeship develops highly skilled practitioners who provide expert careers guidance and support.


Designed to meet the needs of schools, colleges, universities, and community services, this apprenticeship equips individuals with expertise in career coaching, labour market knowledge, information advice and guidance, ethical practice, and professional communication. Apprentices gain the skills and confidence to help people make informed choices, plan their futures, and achieve their career goals.


The programme also includes the OCR Diploma – Level 6 Career Guidance and Development, which is embedded into the apprenticeship. Learners that complete the apprenticeship will receive this accredited qualification.


Typical Workshops:

  • Understanding Your Role, the Sector, Legislation & Ethics: Explore the CDP role in schools/MATs, ethical frameworks, safeguarding and key legislation shaping impartial, high-quality guidance.

  • Pathways: Understand academic, technical and vocational pathways (including apprenticeships), entry requirements and progression routes.

  • Networking; Working Across and With Organisations: Strengthen partnerships across schools, MAT central teams, local employers and external agencies to enhance provision.

  • 1:1 Interview Skills: Develop structured careers interview techniques, active listening and goalsetting approaches that lead to clear, pupilowned action plans.

  • Introduction to LMI: Reflective Practice & Theory: Build confidence using labour market intelligence and strengthen reflective practice, connecting theory to dayto‐day guidance.

  • Career Guidance Theory & Applying Theory to Practice: Examine major career development theories and learn to apply them pragmatically in school settings to improve outcomes.

  • Using Career-Related Information with Clients: Critically evaluate information sources and help pupils use them safely and effectively to make informed decisions.

  • Presenting Labour Market Intelligence Resources: Design and deliver engaging LMI sessions for pupils, parents and staff; translate complex data into accessible insights


End Point Assessment:

  • A professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

  • A project written up as a 4000 word written assignment


Career Progression:

Learners on this programme are equipped with knowledge and skills to build a successful career in education. They regularly go on to further develop, including:


  • Progression to registered Career Development Professional status with the Career Development Institute (CDI).

  • Employment as a Career Adviser, Career Coach, Employability Adviser, or Careers Leader in schools, colleges, universities, and training providers.

  • Opportunities to specialise in areas such as SEND careers guidance, labour‑market intelligence, employer engagement, or coaching.

  • Advancement into senior, lead, or management roles within careers services and employability teams.

  • Apprenticeship Programme

    Delivered via a monthly workshop at our academy in Lincoln. Training can also be delivered at the employer site, and is supported through regular visits from our Occupational Experts.


    This is the main learning phase of the apprenticeship, where apprentices develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for their role. They will complete a mix of workplace training, online learning, assignments, and practical tasks, all supported by their Programme Lead and workplace mentor.
