Information Communications Technicians (ICT) play a critical role in maintaining the systems and infrastructure that organisations rely on every day. Support technicians ensure that hardware, software and networks operate effectively, resolving issues quickly and minimising disruption.
The Level 3 Support Technician apprenticeship develops the technical knowledge, problem solving skills and professional behaviours required to support IT users and systems. Apprentices gain hands on experience troubleshooting faults, maintaining systems and delivering high quality user support - helping organisations operate efficiently and securely.
Typical Workshops:
Introduction to IT Support & the Role of a Support Technician: This workshop introduces the programme and explores the responsibilities of a support technician, including user support, system maintenance and incident response.
IT Fundamentals & Systems Insight: Build a strong understanding of core IT systems, including hardware components, operating systems and basic networking.
Customer Service & User Support: Develop effective communication skills and learn how to deliver professional technical support to users with varying levels of IT knowledge.
Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Learn structured approaches to diagnosing faults, resolving issues and escalating complex technical problems.
Hardware Installation & Maintenance: Gain hands-on experience installing, configuring and maintaining common hardware devices used across organisations.
Software Installation & Configuration: Develop the skills required to install, update and configure software applications and operating systems.
Networking Fundamentals: Explore key networking concepts, including connectivity, routers, switches and troubleshooting common network issues.
Cyber Security Fundamentals: Learn how to identify risks, follow security protocols and support organisations in maintaining secure systems and data.
Data Management & Backup: Understand how data is stored, protected and recovered, including backup processes and secure handling of information.
IT Service Management & Ticketing Systems: Learn how to manage incidents and requests using ticketing systems, prioritising work and maintaining service levels.
Working with IT Policies & Compliance: Develop understanding of organisational policies, compliance requirements and responsible data handling practices.
Communication & Teamworking in IT Environments: Strengthen collaboration skills when working within IT teams and supporting wider organisational functions.
Portfolio Building & Preparing for EPA: A structured session to prepare for your End-Point Assessment, including reviewing knowledge areas and practising assessment activities. Learn how to gather evidence and demonstrate your HR knowledge, skills and behaviours through your portfolio.
End Point Assessment:
Learners will be assessed throughout their programme and will be required to complete an end of programme assessment. During the programme learners build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating their leadership skills, behaviours and application within their workplace.
The EPA includes:
A Synoptic Project – completing a series of integrated tasks that demonstrate technical knowledge and problem‐solving ability.
A Professional Discussion – a structured conversation with an independent assessor based on the apprentice’s portfolio and experience.

Apprenticeship Programme
Delivered via a monthly workshop at our academy in Lincoln. Training can also be delivered at the employer site, and is supported through regular visits from our Occupational Experts.
This is the main learning phase of the apprenticeship, where apprentices develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for their role. They will complete a mix of workplace training, online learning, assignments, and practical tasks, all supported by their Programme Lead and workplace mentor.
